After World War II the Volkswagen factory was offered (free!) to American, British & French motor manufacturers. They all turned it down, Ford dismissing the car as 'not worth a damn' & Britain's Sir William Rootes describing the Beetle as 'too ugly & too noisy'... hindsight, anyone?
